Ive only been playing for a week, (though im 60 odd hours in now.) and ive attacked my first pirate base. You can look for the power source of the turrets, usually batteries and solar panels in plain sight, if you have a weapon with enough range you can make your pawns attack those while staying out of reach from the turrets and when the turrets lose power they cannot attack, you can even claim them and take them with you, I have my current base with twenty-ish turrets around that I took from enemy settlements / outposts and I haven't researched them myself, I have a couple of mods but I'm sure its the same for vanilla. Its sort of free loot, and it improves relationships so I will be doing it again, I wish to stop the pirate faction just because it is impossible to be friends with them, otherwise I would be diplomatic. I did it again with just two pawns that I made tunnel into a rock and filled the path with spike traps and that did it, the pirates ran off.
